Following a building collapse that occurred at Oba Idowu, beside Maria Hospital, Lagos state this morning, six persons were said to have been trapped in the seven-story building according to the Lagos state Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA. The Permanent Secretary LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyitolu, while briefing newsmen today in Lagos said “Two male commodities have been recovered under the rubble and bagged,”. The spokesperson of the LASEMA, Nosa Okumbo stated this on behalf of the LASEMA Perm Sec this morning while briefing journalists.

About ten buildings were reported to have been burnt to ashes following a fire incident that involved a tanker loaded with 45,000 liters of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, fuel crashed in Ifo community in Ogun state spilling all its content. The Zonal coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye issued a statement in Lagos today, saying the incident happened at about 7. am along Olambe Matogun road in Ifo.

Residents of some parts of Lagos State have expressed dissatisfaction over the commencement of enforcement of the extended ban on commercial motorcycle operators (Okada) in more local governments and local council development areas by the Lagos State Government. The affected local governments include; Kosofe, Osodi Isolo, Somolu, and Mushin, while the LCDAs are Agboyi Ketu Ikoai,/Isheri, Isolo, Bariga, and Odi Olowo. The State government which insisted on Wednesday that there is no going back on the ban said defaulters of the ban on commercial motorcycles risked a three-year jail term, as enforcement for the Phase 2 ban starts on Friday. The Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, said this during a news conference in Ikeja, "We implore the general public to comply, as both the rider and passenger are liable to three years in prison if prosecuted.

The presidency has knocked Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state over the claim that the federal government has directed security agencies to spare criminal killer herdsmen. On Monday, the ICIR published an interview of Governor Ortom where he accused the federal government of being responsible for working against the security in the country. According to the publication, Ortom said if not for the respect he has for the constitution of the federal republic, he would have carried arms to fight bandits in his domain. Responding to the Governor's comment, the Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, said if Ortom is truthful with his claim, he should name the security operative that told him such nonsense. 

The Minister of Information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has revealed that the matching order issued by President Muhammadu Buhari to the Service chiefs is now yielding results in the fight against insecurity in the country. The Minister made these remarks in Kano yesterday during a two days National Conference on Culture, peace and National Security, a program organized by the National Institute for Cultural Orientation, NICO. Mr. Mohammed in his statement said, “The military has recorded successes in neutralizing the activities of bandits, terrorists, kidnappers, and other forms of criminality across the country,”

The Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state yesterday struck out the judgement awarded in favour of the Yoruba-Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo better known as Sunday Igboho, by the High court. Recall High court sitting in Ibadan had sometimes last year awarded damage against the Department of States Services, DSS, for allegedly invading the residence of Sunday Igboho for his possible arrest in July 2021. The presiding Judge, Justice Ladiran Akintola in his ruling declared that the raid carried out by the DSS was unlawful and therefore directed the secret police to pay damages to the agitator for attempting to arrest him.
