The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has warned all media practitioners to stay away from being a mouthpiece for any interest group or individuals interested in peddling fake news. The Director-General of the Agency, Balarabe Shehu Illelah, issued this warning yesterday during a media parley in Abuja. Ilellah said many Television and radio stations across the country especially those owned by the government owe the commission above N4billion, a fee for licensing and license renewals. He said for stations owing license renewal fees, the commission was putting them on notice that they have until February 17, 2022, to offset their bills or face the wrath of the commission through withdrawing their license.  The NBC boss called on the media practitioners to always strike balance on reporting from both sides through a critical analysis by exposing fake things from the genuine and also what is threatening societal freedom. 

The Nigerian Army Council has promoted a total number of 117 senior officers comprising of 41 Brigadier Generals who were promoted to the rank of Major General, and 76 Colonels who were promoted to Brigadier General. This was disclosed by the Director of Army Public Relations Brigadier General, Onyema Nwachukwu on Wednesday.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday condemned the renewed terrorist killings in Kaduna State, saying that the gruesome nature of recent incidents in Kauran Fawa, Marke and Ruhiya of Idasu Ward of Giwa Local Government Area, has made him particularly sad and the killings unacceptable. Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement.“Bandits within the week have also killed citizens in Zangon Kataf, chikun, Birnin Gwari, Igabi and Kauru LGAs of Kaduna State,” the statement said.

Nigerian government and Turkey have signed a bilateral which will benefit the nation as it looks for ways in tackling its various security challenges. President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday said Nigeria will partner with the Republic of Turkey in dealing with the current security challenges facing the nation. President Muhammadu Buhari who made this assertion shortly before the official commencement of the 3rd Turkey-Africa Partnership Summit in Istanbul acknowledged that Turkey had garnered a lot of experience in dealing with security challenges of various kinds and Nigeria will latch onto that experience.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has on Wednesday approved new allowances for the police, increasing their take home by 20 percent. The Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi made this known while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, saying the allowance will take effect from January 2022. Dingyadi said the meeting presided by President Muhammadu Buhari approved the "peculiar allowance" for the police in efforts of the governments meeting demands of the #EndSARS protest.

Bandits have murdered a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rilwanu Aminu Gadagau, representing Giwa West Constituency, and abducted many others along the kaduna-Zaria highway. According to reports, Gadagau was killed on Monday night by the assailants who attacked travellers along the road. His lifeless body was later discovered on Wednesday morning. He was the vice Chairman of Giwa Local Government Area before his selection into the House of Assembly in 2019.
Mr Gadagau was the second lawmaker to be killed by suspected bandits in the troubled North-west region in the last six months. Speaker of the Assembly, Yusuf Zailani, while confirming the incident in a statement on Wednesday described it as devastating.
