The Supreme Court has reversed its prior decision which dismissed an appeal by Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) against a N2.4 billion judgment given in favour of Innoson Motors Nigeria Limited by the Court of Appeal in Ibadan, Oyo State. A judgment by Justice Olukayode Ariwoola held unanimously that the Supreme Court erred when, in a ruling on February 27, 2019, it erroneously dismissed the appeal marked: SC/694/2014 filed by GTB. The apex court held that it was misled by its Registry, which failed to promptly bring to the notice of the panel that sat on the case on Feb. 27, 2019 that GTB had already filed its appellant’s brief of argument. The judgment was on an application by the bank seeking the re-listing of the appeal on the grounds that it was incorrectly dismissed. The Supreme Court noted that had the panel that sat on the case on February 27, 2019 been notified of the existence of the appellant’s brief of argument, it would not have discharged GTB’s appeal for lack of diligent prosecution.

Ahead of the anniversary of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day on Saturday, 15th January, 2022, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Lucky Irabor has declared that the military’s unflinching loyalty and subordination to democratic tenets in the Country should eliminate any doubt in the minds of Nigerians that democracy has come to stay. Irabor made the statement during an interview on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme. “Today, I believe that Nigerians are no longer in doubt as to the subordination of the military to the democratic rule which has been sustained since 1999. I believe that no one is in doubt that democracy has come to stay, I believe that no one is in doubt ay longer that the current military leadership, and of course, since democratisation in 1999, that the military is well focused to perform its constitutional roles.”

Senator representing Borno south at the National Assembly, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has slammed the report by some section of the media that “Boko Haram raided police mobile Training school at Gwoza and abducted some policemen.
Ndume, who is the Chairman Senate Committee on Army, and somebody who hails from the said Local Government, Gwoza, in Borno state described the news as ‘fake’, an act of mischief-makers. There was a report alleging that dozens of Police officers were abducted from a Police Mobile training School after the terrorist Boko Haram raided the school located at Limankara Village, a suburb located 20km away from Gwoza town.

The Federal Government (FG) has donated 200 Buffalo trucks, protective helmets, bulletproof vests, and medical equipment worth N7.5Bn to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to assist in tackling crime across the nation.
