The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has threatened one -month lockdown in the entire Southeast if the Federal Government fails to produce its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in court on October 21, 2021. The Media and Publicity Secretary of the secessionist group, Emma Powerful, made this known on Wednesday in a statement made available to our correspondent in Awka, Anambra State. He said IPOB got from a reliable source that the Department of State Services would not bring Kanu to court on October 21 as a ploy to continue to incarcerate him. The statement reads: “The attention of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great prophet and liberator of our time, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has been drawn to the plot by Nigeria government and her DSS in Abuja not to produce our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to court on 21st October 2021, the date he is due to appear in court to start his case. “The federal government of Nigeria has again perfected plans not to bringing him to court on that day. Their wicked plan is to perpetually keep him behind bars without trial to see if they can demoralise him and Biafrans but they are late.

The High Court of Abia State has adjourned the case involving the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) until October 7th, 2021. This decision was taken by the presiding judge, Justice K.C. Okereke because the Federal Government and five other respondents in the case are yet to file their response to the suit, regarding alleged infringement of Kanu’s fundamental rights by the Nigerian government. The respondents in the case include the Federal Government of Nigeria (1st respondent), Attorney General of the Federation, AGF (2nd respondent), Chief of Army Staff, COAS (3rd respondent), Inspector General of Police (5th respondent), Director General, Department of State Services, DSS (7th respondent) and three other respondents. Kanu through his lawyer Aloy Ejimakor is seeking N5bn in damages for allegedly breaching his fundamental human rights, his involuntary flight to exile, his alleged abduction in Kenya and his subsequent extradition to Nigeria. According to reports, only two- the DSS in Abuja and Umuahia out of the 8 respondents- have filed their responses to the suit brought forward by Kanu but their responses were filed out of time.

Major Christopher Datong, the officer abducted by bandits during an attack on Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) facility in Kaduna on August 234 has been rescued by security operatives. On Friday night, Deputy Director Army Public Relations 1 Division, Nigerian Army Colonel Ezindu Idimah, said Datong was rescued by troops. He said the operation was conducted based on several leads received from various sources regarding the abductors, and the possible location of where the abducted officer was being kept. According to Idimah, the Chief of Defence Staff and the Service Chiefs had earlier issued a directive after the abduction of the officer, that he be rescued and his abductors fished out. Giving details about the rescue mission he said, several identified bandits’ camps were destroyed in Afaka-Birnin Gwari areas of the state. While scores of bandits were neutralized, particularly in the late hours of September 17, 2021. He said the Division in liaison with the Air Task Force, Department of State Services, and other security agencies, immediately swung into action.

Oyo State High Court in Ibadan, on Friday, awarded the sum of N20 billion as damages against the Attorney General of the Federal, Abubakar Malami (SAN) and the Department of State Services (DSS) in the suit filed by Yoruba nation agitator and activist, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho. Justice Ladiran Akintola gave the order while delivering judgement in a N500 billion suit filed against Malami and DSS over the invasion of his Ibadan residence, on July 1. Igboho through his lawyer, Yomi Alliyu, filed a suit challenging the invasion of his house in Ibadan by operatives of DSS. Referring to the incident as illegal and an infringement on his fundamental human rights. The court also dismissed an application filed by the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, challenging its jurisdiction to hear allegations against Nigerian government agencies.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya has warned Army commanders that he would no longer take or accept excuses, in regards to tackling security challenges in the country. The COAS issued this warning in Abuja at the opening ceremony of the “Combined Second and Third Quarter Chief of Army Staff Conference” on Monday. Yahaya said, “As officers and commanders whose charge are placed men, material and other resources, you are the key drivers of these pillars. You must therefore note that even if we have all we require, we might not achieve much without you providing effective leadership.

Heavily armed bandits stormed a jail in Kabba, Kogi State overnight, freeing scores of inmates, a prison authority spokesman said Monday. “The medium Security Custodial Centre in Kabba, Kogi State, has been attacked by yet to be identified gunmen and 240 inmates forcefully released,” Nigeria’s Correctional Service (NCS) spokesman Francis Enobore said in a statement.
