The Plateau State police command has arrested a total of 20 suspects in connection with the killing of about 22 travelers in Rukuba area of Plateau’s Jos north LGA on Saturday. With the development the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Usman Baba, on Sunday ordered the immediate deployment of Police Intervention Team to Plateau State to carry out an on-the-spot assessment and ensure enhanced, coordinated response to protect the community and boost public confidence in the affected areas of the state. This was contained in a statement on Sunday by the Police spokesman, Frank Mba, title, “Plateau attacks” 20 suspects arrested, 33 victims rescued as IG orders coordinated response to protect citizens.” The statement read, “The IGP, while condemning the incident, has called for calm and assured victims and relatives of the attack that the police are working with the military, other security forces and the State Government to ensure that all perpetrators of the unfortunate incident are brought to book.

President Buhari has approved the appointment of Justice Husseni B aba-Yusuf as acting Chief Judge of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). President Buhari’s approval was based on recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC).

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Niger State, Muhammad Idris, who was abducted by suspected bandits on August 7 has regained his freedom around 9.30 p.m. on Thursday. A member of the family, Ado Ada, who made the disclosure, expressed his delight over the victim’s safe return.

Indonesia’s foreign ministry expressed its regret on Thursday over the manhandling and assault meted on a senior Nigerian diplomat by immigration officers in Jakarta, which prompted Nigerian government to recall its ambassador to Abuja for consultations. Indonesian foreign ministry spokesperson Teuku Faizasyah said the ministry regretted the incident on August 7 and was communicating with the Nigerian government on the issue. “That incident was an isolated incident and does not have anything to do with Indonesia’s commitment to performing its duties as a host country as per Vienna conventions on diplomatic relations,” Faizasyah said. “The law and human rights ministry has launched an internal investigation as a follow up to that incident,” he added. Faizasyah said a meeting took place between the ministry and the Nigerian ambassador on Wednesday where they discussed "good relations" between the countries.

At least Twenty-four members of the same family have died after consuming a suspected poisoned meal in North-western Nigeria. The incident which happened in Danzanke village, a remote community in the Sokoto state, was confirmed by the state’s health commissioner, Ali Inname. According to Inname the family mistakenly used fertiliser chemical popularly called “Gishirin Lalle in Hausa” as a seasoning in domestic family cooking instead of table salt. He said medical personnel tried to save the victims’ lives to no avail. “Regrettably, the entire family who ate the meal lost their lives, except two female members, who merely tasted the food and are currently responding to treatment, with very good chances of survival,” Inname said.
