Oyo State High Court in Ibadan, on Friday, awarded the sum of N20 billion as damages against the Attorney General of the Federal, Abubakar Malami (SAN) and the Department of State Services (DSS) in the suit filed by Yoruba nation agitator and activist, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho. Justice Ladiran Akintola gave the order while delivering judgement in a N500 billion suit filed against Malami and DSS over the invasion of his Ibadan residence, on July 1. Igboho through his lawyer, Yomi Alliyu, filed a suit challenging the invasion of his house in Ibadan by operatives of DSS. Referring to the incident as illegal and an infringement on his fundamental human rights. The court also dismissed an application filed by the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, challenging its jurisdiction to hear allegations against Nigerian government agencies.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya has warned Army commanders that he would no longer take or accept excuses, in regards to tackling security challenges in the country. The COAS issued this warning in Abuja at the opening ceremony of the “Combined Second and Third Quarter Chief of Army Staff Conference” on Monday. Yahaya said, “As officers and commanders whose charge are placed men, material and other resources, you are the key drivers of these pillars. You must therefore note that even if we have all we require, we might not achieve much without you providing effective leadership.

Heavily armed bandits stormed a jail in Kabba, Kogi State overnight, freeing scores of inmates, a prison authority spokesman said Monday. “The medium Security Custodial Centre in Kabba, Kogi State, has been attacked by yet to be identified gunmen and 240 inmates forcefully released,” Nigeria’s Correctional Service (NCS) spokesman Francis Enobore said in a statement.

The 75 pupils of Government Day Secondary School, Kaya, in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State who were abducted on September 1, 2021, have regained their freedom after about two weeks in captivity. The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) broke the news on its verified Facebook, wherein it was revealed in the post that gunmen abducted more than 70 students in the country’s northwest state of Zamfara. It is not yet clear if any ransom was paid before the pupils were released, as details of the release remain sketchy. Zamfara State Police spokesman, Mohammed Shehu, had said in a statement that a large group of attackers stormed the Government Day Secondary School in the remote village of Kaya that Wednesday morning, seizing the pupils. He had given the number of seized children as 73. “The abduction followed the invasion of the school by large numbers of armed bandits,” he had stated.

The Executive Governor of Zamfara State, His Excellency Bello Matawalle, has informed that the state government is no longer interested in dialoguing with bandits since they have rejected the olive branch earlier extended to them. The Governor who spoke in Gusau, the state capital, stated that instead of dialogue, security forces would sustain efforts to flush them out.
