6 students and two staff of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic in Zaria Kaduna State, who were kidnapped on 11 June by bandits have been released. The Public Relations Officer of the polytechnic, Abdullahi Shehu, said the kidnapped students and staff regained their freedom after their parents and relatives negotiated with the bandits. He, however, did not say specifically if any ransom was paid or not.

Former acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Commissioner Ibrahim Magu (CP) has been denied promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG) by the Police Service Commission (PSC) stating that the ex-EFCC boss is still under probe over allegations of misuse of office and has not been cleared by the Inspector General of Police, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

A bill seeking the creation of state police has passed the second reading at the house of representatives. The bill which was sponsored by Onofiok Luke representing Etinan/Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency will alter the constitution in terms of state policing and other state government security services.

Armed men suspected to be kidnappers has launched their attack on Bethel Secondary School, Maramara in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State earlier today where scores of students were kidnapped. It was reported that gunmen stormed the school premises at about 1 am the early hour of Monday while shooting sporadically as they made away with unspecific students.
