The House of Representatives on Tuesday 29th June 2021 has confirmed the nomination of Major General Farouk Yahaya by President Mohammadu Buhari as Chief of Army Staff.

The Federal Government has announced the extension of the deadline for National Identity Number (NIN)-SIM data verification to July 26, 2021. This was disclosed in a joint statement by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Nigeria Identity Management Commission (NIMC) titled ‘FG approves July 26 as NIN-SIM verification deadline as enrolment systems increase to 5,410.’

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Tanko Muhammad, has sworn in 18 judges who were recently elevated to the Court of Appeal. The swearing-in ceremony was held at the main court of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Abuja.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that it has blocked the accounts of 1,000 corps members across the country for unethical practices. This was disclosed in Abuja by the Director-General of NYSC, Brig. Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria after declaring open the 2020 inspectors development program, themed: “Optimising the ideals of the scheme through effective utilization of the NYSC inspector.”

The Federal government has defended its decision to suspend the activities of Twitter in the country stating that its action is well-founded in law which has in no way breached the rights of its citizens. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed made this known during his presentation at the House of Representatives Joint Committee on the Suspension of Twitter in Nigeria. In the presentation, the minister argued that Twitter activity in the country is in violation of public interest and negates some provisions of the Terrorism Act as well as the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA).
