The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has suspended a popular news company in Nigeria, Channels TV with a fine of N5 million for inviting and interviewing a leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The commission in a letter signed by the Acting Director-General, Armstrong Idachaba said the news agency breached a broadcast code by airing an interview with a leader of IPOB, allowing the group to make secessionist and inciting statements without caution.
The interview was aired live on April 25, 2021, by 7 pm.
The commission also accused the news station of allowing the guest to make derogatory, false and misleading statements about the Nigerian army and government.
