Following an attack by suspected herdsmen on Odonto in Adim Akpa a community in Otukpo local council area of Benue State security forces have been deployed to the area.
The attack which occurred on Christmas eve left two people dead and two others wounded.
Governor Samuel Ortom while receiving visitors for this year’s Christmas homage, confirmed that security operatives, troops have been deployed contain the violence.
Despite threats of more attacks on Adim Akpa communities he asked the residents to report early signs of threats and avail security agencies with information of any form of information to enable them to respond promptly.
The traditional ruler of the community, Adirahu Igede, HRM Oga Ero who spoke on behalf of Benue South where the killings took place appealed to the governor for increased surveillance and ensure strict implementation of the anti-grazing law.
He said the government should not to relent in the implementation of the open grazing prohibition law, which has helped to reduce the spate of herdsmen attacks.
Stakeholders at the governors’ country home, including former governor George Akume, urge the people to support governor Ortom, denying any rift between them as leaders.
