President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Senate to confirm the appointment of the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the substantive CJN.
President Buhari’s request was contained in a letter read by the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan during Tuesday’s plenary session.
According to the President’s letter, the request for Ariwoola’s appointment is in accordance with Section 231 (1) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
Ariwoola was appointed as acting CJN, following the resignation of his predecessor, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad.
