The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali, has deployed the IGP Monitoring Unit and X-Squad to observe the activities of officers policing the highways during the Easter celebrations. The IGP via a statement by police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Friday, says the deployment is aimed at ensuring respect for the rights of citizens and operational conformity with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Rules of Engagement (RoE) of the Force. The IGP also ordered all state Commissioners of Police (CPs) and their supervising Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to ensure adequate deployment of police personnel, and operational assets to areas of security interest within their respective areas of responsibility (AoRs). According to the statement, the Complaint Response Unit and the Public Complaint Bureau, have equally been charged to respond swiftly to complaints received from the general public.
Meanwhile, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of Police has assured residents of Nigeria’s capital city of Abuja of proper protection of life and property during Easter celebrations and has deployed 2,336 personnel to that effect.
In a press statement made available by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Babaji Sunday, in the spirit of the Easter Celebrations wished all Christian faithful a happy festivity.
He urged stakeholders in the Christian faith to use the opportunity in admonishing those within their spheres of influence to embrace peace, tolerance for one another and persons of other faith, and most importantly patriotism.
The Commissioner assured residents of the FCT that the Command has charged the deployed operatives to ensure that there is watertight security at all places of worship, an effective foot and vehicular patrol to parks, recreational and entertainment centres, to ensure the free flow of traffic and respond promptly to distress calls from within the city centre and the suburbs.
