Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, has raised an alarm that what is happening in the southeast is a tactical ethnic cleansing against northerners residing in the region. AYCF National President, Yerima Shettima made the allegation accusing the southeast Governors of executing an agenda against the north by failing to stem the tide of killing a particular ethnic group in their domain. Shettima said, the group has condemned the murder of the pregnant mother, Fatima who was killed alongside her four children in Anambra state last three days.
He laments that the orchestrated killing is targeting northerners residing in the southeast, as Fatima was killed at Isulo, Orumba North Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.
Accordingly, Shettima warned that northerners should not be taken for weaklings in the face of such provocative murder but called on the leaders of the southeast to wake up and stem the tide if it is a peace that they want.
The AYCF released a statement after an emergency meeting yesterday held at Kaduna Arewa House, the Youth threatened that no region has the monopoly on violence.
The statement partly reads, “The fact that the governors of the South-East are the chief security officers of their States but do nothing to stop the unprovoked killing of northerners presupposes an ethnic cleansing agenda and we condemn it, in whatever guise – IPOB attack or ESN.
“The killing of a mother and the baby she cuddled, as well as the Christian aircraft engineer of Northern extraction meant the lives of Northerners are no longer valued in the South-East.
“The silence of these governors, despite the brutal attacks on our sons and daughters in the South-East, must be stopped now and we want to sound our note of warning that no Nigerian has the monopoly of violence and that northerners’ respect for the rule of law should never be taken as weakness,” Shettima said.
