The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has announced the beginning of applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme, which will provide the opportunity for Nigerian postgraduate students to study in the United Kingdom (UK), Germany, France, and Malaysia.
This was confirmed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun.
The scheme is designed to target MSc and PhD candidates in disciplines associated to the oil and gas sector with benefits such as tuition, return flight tickets, accommodation and living allowances, health insurance, etc.
PhD applicants admitted into UK universities will conduct a split-site scholarship, where research will be conducted between the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK), and selected UK partner universities, including Robert Gordon University, the University of Strathclyde, and the University of Portsmouth.
A statement by PTDF reads in part, “The PTDF noted that the scholarship is highly competitive, with applicants assessed based on academic excellence, quality of research proposals, professional memberships, and relevance to Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
“MSc applicants must possess a minimum of a Second Class Lower (2:2) degree from a recognized institution and must have completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
“PhD applicants are required to submit a comprehensive research proposal aligned with the fund’s strategic objectives.”
The application deadline is February 27, 2026, and interested and eligible applicants are encouraged to submit their applications online via scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng.
