The Students of Federal University, Lokoja, on Friday, 30th January, 2026, were urged by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, to attend lectures consistently, warning that those with less than 75 percent attendance in class would be barred from sitting for any examinations at the university.
Professor Akinwumi made the declaration while addressing the students during the 14th matriculation ceremony of newly admitted students.
He said, “Please note that any student with less than 75% class attendance shall not be eligible to sit for examinations at the end of each semester. Attendance is not optional; it is mandatory. You must also avoid every form of examination misconduct and malpractice.”
“The university has zero tolerance for such acts, and the penalties are severe,” he further warned.
He added, “Studentship comes with accountability and discipline. You are expected to take your academic work seriously. Similarly, you are advised to stay away from drug abuse and substance use, as these are corrosive habits that destroy lives and futures.”
For the 2025/2026 academic year, the university matriculated 9,097 students who successfully fulfilled the requirements of both the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board examinations and the institution’s own screening process.
“This figure reflects not only the competitive nature of our admission process but also our steadfast commitment to merit, quality, and excellence,” Professor Akinwumi stated.
He further encouraged students to uphold high standards of decency and adhere consistently to the university’s approved dress code, adding that they should remain vigilant about security and report any suspicious activities immediately to the relevant authorities.
