Five among the unspecified number of students kidnapped from Federal Government College Birnin Yauri, in kebbi state have been rescued while one unfortunately died. The rescued students comprising four students and a teacher were delivered from the hands of their captors by the Joint Taskforce Component of Operation Hadari Daji, during a gun battle. The Deputy Force Commander of the Joint Taskforce in the North-West Zone, Air Commodore Abubakar AbdulKadir, confirmed this on Friday to reporters in Zamfara State. According to Abdulkadir, the gallant troops came in contact with the assailants in the early hours of Friday and engaged them in a gun battle, during which five of the abducted victims were rescued. The military officer however did not give an account of how one of the students died nor did he give his/her identity.
Abdulkadir said “In the early hours of this morning, we have come across the kidnappers. They came to our blocking point, and we engaged them.”
“At that point, they abandoned five of the students and one of the teachers, Unfortunately, I think we have lost one of the students,’ He added.
AbdulKadir further revealed that about 155 rustled cattle in 12 trucks were recovered by the troops at the Jageme area in Magami District of Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Vigil360 on Thursday reported that, suspected bandits in their numbers struck in Birnin Yauri, Kebbi state, and abducted many students of Federal Government College. It was revealed that an unspecified number of girls were abducted and taken to an undisclosed location during the attack.
