Igbinedion University, Okada, headquarters of Ovia North-East Local Government Area, Edo state on Saturday announced that it is awarding automatic employment to graduates sponsored by the Presidential Amnesty Programme and also those who made second class upper degrees in the 2016/2017 academic session.
The Niger Delta Amnesty Programme was initiated by the Umaru Yar’Adua administration in 2009, as part of efforts to disarm restive youths in the oil region.
Vice Chancellor of the institution Prof Eghosa Osaghae, made the announcement at the 15th convocation of the institution.
He mentioned that the employment would take effect immediately after the graduates completed the mandatory National Youth Service.
Osaghae stated that in addition all graduates from Kano, Bauchi, Gombe with second class upper, as well as the best computer science graduate would also be automatically employed.
According to him the ten best students from each of the 36 states of the federation who desire to pursue a career in sciences will be awarded scholarship.
He further said that the institution, which is the first private university in the country introduced the incentive to augment the government's inability to reach out to private schools with scholarships.
According to the Chancellor, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion who was ably represented by his son Chief Lucky Igbinedion, the scholarship scheme
will expand the work force in sciences.
Adding that from inception the institution has produced no fewer than 3,000 lawyers, 1, 500 doctors, 2,000 engineers and 800 pharmacists.
He called on the Federal Government to take into account private universities as beneficiaries of TETFUND.
