Lieutenant A.M. Yerima, a young Nigerian Navy officer, allegedly escaped some unidentified individuals trailing him in Abuja at around 6:30 pm on Sunday.

According to reports, some men in two unmarked Hilux vans without license plates followed Yerima from the NIPCO Filling Station along the Kubwa Expressway to Gado Nasco Way.

Upon sighting the cars, the naval officer reportedly performed strategic maneuvers to escape the trailing vehicles.

Reports circulating suggest it was an assassination attempt; however, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed reports as unverified.

According to a statement issued on Sunday night by the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, which reads, “The attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to publications circulating on social media alleging an attempted assassination on Lt. Ahmed Yerima.

“The command wishes to categorically state that no such incident has been reported or recorded anywhere within the Federal Capital Territory.

“The public is advised to disregard this false information and desist from spreading unverified claims capable of causing unnecessary panic.”

Recall that Lt. Yerima became popular after videos of his tense encounter with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, surfaced online over a disputed plot in Gaduwa District belonging to a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Zubairu Gambo (retd).

The viral video showed Yerima blocking Wike and his team from accessing the site and generated differing opinions from the public.
