The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the appointment of 12 new justices, including Justice James Omotosho, for elevation to the court of appeal.
This decision was made at the NJC’s 111th meeting held on May 13 and led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
According to the statement issued on Thursday by the council's deputy director of information, Kemi Babalola-Ogedengbe, which disclosed that the appointments were “to fill vacancies arising from the elevation and retirement of judicial officers across various levels of the judiciary and to strengthen the capacity of courts for effective justice delivery".
Nominated justices include Justice Yakubu Mohammed, Justice Abodunde Oluwatoyin, Justice Ajuwa Raphael, Justice Abua Ojie, Justice Ijohor Jennifer and Justice Shuaibu Bala.
Others are Justice Nwite Emeka, Justice Buba Njane, Justice Kado Sanusi, Justice Ademola Enikuomehin, and Justice Dadom Veronica.
