The Presidency has expressed its support for the Special Committee on Campaign Against Social Vices in Secondary and Tertiary Institutions, describing its mandate as vital to Nigeria’s future.
This assurance was made known by Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu during a meeting with members of the committee led by Prof. Jerry Ugokwe at the State House, Abuja.
He stated that rising social vices among youths was a growing national issue that required focused and coordinated intervention.
According to him, “It takes a community to raise a child; it’s not just about the parents anymore, it’s about the clergy, your neighbour, the teachers. So, we all stand in locus parentis for the children.
“We cannot sit back and do nothing and expect this country to grow or develop if you do not start from the foundation.”
He stated that the administration of President Bola Tinubu had introduced reforms and policies focused on youths and urged the youths to use the opportunities provided.
The Chief of Staff stated that the special committee would be provided with support and partnership such as Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives of corporate bodies and also announced a seed donation of N50 million.
