The Kano State Government has ordered the immediate shutdown of all entertainment centers across the state for the period of the 2026 Ramadan fasting. Both disc jockey (DJ) operators and event centers, also referred to as gala houses, are impacted by the order. Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, the Kano State Censorship Board's Public Relations Officer, announced in an official statement on Tuesday.
“Effective from Wednesday, 18 February 2026, all such venues (entertainment centers) will remain closed until the end of the holy month of Ramadan. “The directive will take effect from 10:00 p.m. on that day (today, Wednesday)," the statement said.
The board claims that the move aims to create a polite and peaceful environment so that citizens can observe the Ramadan fast without interruptions. The board clarified that entertainment-related activities will be suspended for the duration of the fast.
The date of the centers' reopening, particularly for the Eid celebrations, would be announced later, it was stated. “The closure will remain in force throughout the fasting period, while the date for reopening, particularly during the Eid celebrations, will be announced at the appropriate time,” the statement added.
The board asked DJs and event center owners to follow the rule to the letter.
To make sure the order is followed, it issued a warning that enforcement teams would be stationed around the state. The agency stated that it is within its authority to control entertainment and uphold social and moral order during religious holidays.
During the holy month, the board also offered prayers for citizens' health and tranquility. The public was urged to assist the administration in making sure that Ramadan is observed successfully.
