Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, has officially announced his intention to run for president in 2027 as political clouds begin to gather.
Al-Mustapha declared that he would run for president on behalf of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), at a meeting with the SDP state executive committee in Minna, Niger State, he revealed this.
"I am hurt and worried about the country's current situation. Nigeria might, however, rise once more with the correct focus and dedication. Together, we can rebuild the Nigeria that we all deserve, despite the challenges that lie ahead."
He explained that the gathering was a component of a larger plan to interact with national stakeholders in advance of the 2027 elections.
Alhaji Buhari Yakubu Yarima, the State Chairman of the SDP, praised him for the announcement.
He declared, "We are sure that the SDP will be a force to be reckoned with in 2027 with credible candidates and a clear vision."
At first, there were rumors that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was using the SDP as a vehicle for the opposition coalition.
Adewale Adebayo, the party's former presidential candidate, asserted that SDP is not a member of the alliance.
