Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has come under fire from former Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, over an altercation with soldiers in a disputed area of Abuja. Videos that went viral on Tuesday showed Wike arguing angrily with troops at the location in the country's capital.
Buratai demanded an "immediate and serious response" in a statement, claiming that the incident constituted a "threat to national security."
According to the statement, "his public denigration of a Nigerian Armed Forces uniformed officer goes beyond simple misconduct; it represents a palpable threat to national security and institutional integrity."
According to Buratai, the event was "an act of profound indiscipline" that damaged soldier morale, disregarded the commander-in-chief's authority, and threatened the military chain of command.
"This cannot be written off as political theater. It is a careless threat to the country's order. He said, "This action by Wike is obviously a sign of undermining the authority of the federal government."
As commander-in-chief of the armed forces, the former army chief requested Wike to apologize to both the officer in question and President Bola Tinubu.
"The security of our country must come first. It is time to take decisive action rather than engage in military-bashing politics. Nothing less is required to maintain the integrity of our military forces, Buratai stated.
