Nigeria is set to receive 3,930,910 doses of Pfizer-N Tech COVID-19 vaccine from the COVAX facility next month donated by the United States. Another 3,577,860 doses of Pfizer-Bio-N Tech vaccine is expected in the third quarter of this year from the COVAX facility with 29,850,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine donated by the African Union Commission.
Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) Dr. Faisal Shuaib said this during the PTF press briefing saying an additional 3,924,000 doses of Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine is expected in the country by end of July or early August from the COVAX facility.
He noted that the agency is put measures in place for necessary logistics, storage, security, distribution, and accountability of the expected vaccines.
Shuaib disclosed that the Federal Government has procured 60 units of U701 ultra cold chain equipment with 37 deployed to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in order to receive doses of the vaccine that require a temperature of below 40 to 85 degrees.
He urged the public to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines particularly with the detection of the Delta variant in the country, as well as assured that persons from 18 years and above, pregnant and lactating women are eligible to take the jabs.
