The United Nations Emergency Fund, UNICEF, has entrusted about ₦480m to preserve women and children access to free healthcare services in Zamfara State. UNICEF Chief, Sokoto Field office, Michael Juma disclosed this during a three-day formal opening of UNICEF Interaction with Zamfara State Government officials on the state’s Ten Year Strategic Plan. The fund would help the government to achieve results in its efforts to create sustainable development in the State, in the areas of Social, Economic and Environment.
Juma stated that it is time to develop an accountability, monitoring and evaluation framework, to help the key officers managing the strategic plan to track progress, pledged to support the state government to enhance the competitiveness of staff on reporting and budgeting.
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal commended UNICEF for its support to the state, and described the ten year strategic plan as a roadmap to guide his administration in addressing challenges and achieving development goals.
UNICEF added that it is working to ensure children in the state have access to quality and inclusive education, with particular emphasis on out-of-school children to enroll them in school, to acquire appropriate quality education to help them realize their full potential when they grow up.
