The embattled Lagos State house of Assembly Speaker, Mojisola Meranda has resign as the Speaker for the state Assembly this afternoon to become the Deputy speaker following much pressure to pave way for Mudashiru Obasa return. Accordingly, members of the State Assembly have applauded the courage of the leadership and legislative performance of Speaker Mojisola Meranda, within her short stay in office.
Meranda assumed office on January 13, 2025, following the alleged illegal removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who is reportedly hanging for reinstatement.
Her colleagues revealed that despite her short-lived tenure the lawmakers lauded her ability to lead effectively and foster a positive atmosphere in the hallow chamber.
During the plenary session, which began at about 2:20 p.m., Aro Moshood (Oshodi-Isolo I) initiated the praise session, describing Meranda’s leadership as “positively life-transforming.”
He noted that her approach to governance had been exemplary, despite the challenges that came with the transition.
In a secondment move, Kehinde Joseph (Alimosho II) emphasized Meranda’s resilience and humility, stating, “You have made history with your resilience and humility. Your time may be short, but you have written your name in gold.”
The Lawmakers also acknowledged her efforts in maintaining order and stability within the House during a period of political uncertainty.
David Setonji, representing Badagry II, said, “Her tenure, though brief, has been marked by efficiency, collaboration, and a commitment to legislative duties, earning her the respect of her fellow lawmakers.”
Meanwhile, Mudasiru Obasa has been immediately sworn back with immediate effect as the speaker with full force to continue where he left.
This is as Meranda has accepted to play the second Fidel unopposed as the deputy speaker.
