Reports suggest that the failed quest by Alexis Sanchez to join Manchester City following his refusal to renew his contract at Emirate has become a rallying point for players seeking to mock the Chile international. Arsenal Striker, Chuba Akpom who spoke to Daily Star hinted that the player was facing banter from other players in the team over the failed deal.
“We do banter about it to be fair. But at the end of the day, he’s still at Arsenal. Everyone is happy, the fans are happy and he’s happy. I think with a player like Sanchez he just blocks it out because all he wants to do is play football. He’s so focused on football, he blocks out a lot of negativity and transfer rumours,” he added.
Recall that Arsenal had reportedly agreed a deal to facilitate the player's switch to Ethihad. The deal fell apart after the club failed to secure a move for his replacement, Thomas Lemar.
Sanchez's contract with Arsenal ends this season. Consequently, the player could leave as a free agent next summer if he fails to pen a deal to facilitate a move away from Emirate in January.
