Michy Batshuayi and defender Cesar Azpilicueta each scored inside the final 20 minutes to help Chelsea win a six-goal thriller against Watford at Stamford Bridge on Saturday early kickoff. Chelsea was on the brink of their third straight Premier League defeat as they came roaring back to give their strongest indication yet title defence credentials. Chelsea won 4-2 to move above the Hornets into fourth in the Premier League after coming back from 2-1 down in the second half.
Watford had gone in front after goals from Abdoulaye Doucoure and Roberto Pereyra cancelled out a wonder strike from Pedro.
It was left to Batshuayi to come off the bench to score twice, either side of Azpilicueta’s lead-taking goal, to get the champions back on track.
It was thrilling game, with Watford excellent for long periods although ultimately left to regret the chances they did not take.
That rare new Brazilian talent Richarlison claimed one assist but was guilty of two big misses in a period when it felt like Chelsea were vulnerable to every attack launched at them.
The Blues were understandably nervy following recent defeats in the league. It was left to Pedro to settle the side down on 11 minutes when he swept in a shot off the post after being played in by Eden Hazard following a short corner.
Huddersfield town handed Mourinho’s Manchester United their first defeat of the season as they were beaten 2 – 1.
Meanwhile Manchester City beat Burnley 3 -0 to extend their lead on the table by five points.
