The Chinese Football Association (CFA) says it has launched formal investigation into suspicion of match fixing involving Obi Mikel's Tianjin Teda after they defeated Fabio Cannavaro's Quajian 4-1 in the Chinese Super League. Mikel's club which has not won a single game since four months ago are battling relegation with only five games to the end of the season.
The club recently sacked their manager and appointed Uli Steilek as new manager. Upon resumption, Steilek warned Mikel and his teammates to brace up in order to get out of the relegation zone.
In a statement on Weibo, China's Twitter equivalent, CFA said “The Chinese Football Association has launched an investigation into the game.
“Any violations of fair play will be severely dealt with according to the law. CFA will collect all available facts and evidence related to this game”.
Teda's win has brightened their chances of escaping relegation.
