The Super Eagles on Tuesday defeated Egypt 1-0 in a friendly match in Asaba, Delta State, breaking a jinx of 29 years with one of the fastest goals in the Nations football history. This Victory will boost the morale of the National team in preparation for the upcoming Afcon in June.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria, whose line up was basically home-based Eagles fused with first-timers and couple of lads from the youth team faced the Pharaohs of Egypt who were also without their star player Mohamed Salah but the majority of the First Team players with the likes of Mahmoud Trezeguet, Mohmed Elneny suffered a 1-0 defeat by Nigeria.
Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu scored the deciding goal of the match five seconds into the Game. This goal put the Egyptians on the front foot throughout the match, constantly mounting pressure on the Nigerian defense, but a superb performance from the back partnership of Ekong and Leon Balogun kept the team at bay.
Although both teams have qualified for the AFCON, Egypt Assistant Coach, Tito Garcia, who said he was aware of the qualities in the Super Eagles and has highlighted the importance of the game to the north African country who will host the continent in June.
Super Eagles Head Coach, Gernot Rohr congratulated the Eagles for their performance and stated that the performance will serve as a boost in the coming AFCON.
