Maria Sharapova has reportedly been advised by her doctors to withdraw from the Bank of West Classic due to soreness in her left arm. The organizers of the tournament who made the disclosure in a statement issued yesterday said the decision was "preventative" to avoid further injury trouble. She was earlier billed to play on Wednesday night. Her inability to feature in the tournament has automatically made the seventh-seed Lesia Tsurenko to move to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Sharapova disclosed that she had picked up the injury in her three-set opening against American Jenifer Brady. According to her
"After yesterday's scan, the doctor has recommended I don't risk further injury. Monday night’s crowd was so special and I wish I could continue playing but I have to make a preventative decision.”
