WhatsApp Web is set to receive a significant upgrade, allowing users to manage photos, videos, and other shared content more efficiently. In addition, the platform is gearing up to support video calls, similar to services like Zoom and Google Meet. Over the past few months, WhatsApp has been steadily enhancing the functionality of its web client. Recent beta updates have hinted at the upcoming ability to make calls directly from the web interface. Now, a new feature aims to make it easier for users to manage shared media, documents, and links.
Media Management Hub: What to Expect
Spotted in the Android beta version 2.24.13.4, the upcoming "Media Hub" was revealed by WaBetaInfo, which also shared a screenshot showcasing the new interface. This hub will be accessible via a new tab in the side panel, located below the Communities section.
Once opened, the hub will display categories such as media, documents, and links in a clean, organized layout. A search bar at the top will allow users to find specific items, photos, videos, or links, shared in chats.
The media hub will also provide context about shared content, including who sent it and when. To streamline content management, users will be able to select multiple items at once for deletion or sharing, eliminating the need to handle files individually.
Video Calling and Beyond
The WhatsApp web client continues to evolve, especially to cater to workplace users who prefer managing their messages via desktop rather than mobile. In addition to the media hub, the web platform is expected to support video calling in the near future, bringing it closer to platforms like Google Meet and Zoom.
While the new media management feature is still under development and not yet available to the public, it’s expected to roll out in a future beta release.
Bonus Update: WhatsApp for iPad
In other news, WhatsApp has finally released its dedicated app for iPad, now available on the App Store. It took the company over 15 years to bring a native experience to Apple’s tablet, but users can now enjoy the full feature set with WhatsApp’s signature privacy protections intact.
