Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, have dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC). Twenty-seven (27) of the Thirty-two (32) members of the House of Assembly announced their defection on the floor of the House during Monday’s sitting. In the letter, which was also addressed to the state’s acting chairman of PDP and signed by all the 27 lawmakers, the defectors cited the division at the national leadership of the party for their decision to quit the PDP.
A member of the Assembly, Enemi George, who confirmed to pressmen disclosed that the 27 lawmakers were under the leadership of Martin Amaewhule.
It can be recalled that the Assembly had in October served an impeachment notice on Governor Siminalayi Fubara under the speakership of Amaewhule. However, some members of the Assembly loyal to Fubara immediately impeached Amaewhule and made House leader, Ehie the new Speaker.
Ever since then, the state Assembly has been embroiled in a Speakership tussle.
