Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu has ordered commissioners of police to initiate actions to identify, isolate, disarm, arrest and prosecute individuals or groups in possession of prohibited firearms. According to the IGP, the measure is part of preparations for the coming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, as well as efforts by the police to curb the proliferation of prohibited firearms. A statement that was made available to the media on Sunday in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, informed that the directive became necessary against the backdrop of the deliberate arming and movement of political thugs and other criminals across the country.

Former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Obadiah Mailafiya has yesterday after grilling from the Department of State Services (DSS) made a U-turn saying he got the information on the alleged commander of Boko Haram he stated from a trader, not a repented insurgent as he claimed. Mailafiya, while speaking on 99.3FM radio on Monday alleged that unnamed northern Governor was a commander of Boko Haram, and they are planning a civil war by the year 2022 in the country.

The ruling of a Lagos High court sitting in Ikeja over a no-case submission filed by Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, aka Evans and his co-defendants, would be decided today. The pronouncement of Justice Hakeem Oshodi, a presiding judge over the case would determine whether the case would continue or not.
