The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu has ordered an immediate investigation into miseries surrounding the alleged attack on the Benue state Governors convoy. On Saturday, gunmen attacked Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state while returning from his farm along Makurdi-Gboko road precisely at, Tyo mu village. While narrating the incident, the Governor alleged that the attack was perpetrated by herders but he narrowly escaped by the grace of God.
The spokesperson of the Force Headquarters, DCP Frank Mba in a statement yesterday said the Police IGP has directed that the commissioner of Police in Benue state should beef up security around the Governor and immediately conduct a thorough investigation that leads to the attack and its perpetrators.
The IGP assured Benue people of security commitment to bring the perpetrators to book while assuring all Nigerians that security agencies are on top of their game to ensure a safe return to all corners of the country.
Mba said, “The IGP has also specifically directed the CP to carry out painstaking investigations into the incident and ensure the arrest and prosecution of persons indicted in the course of the investigations,” the statement reads.
He added, “Meanwhile, in order to ensure a speedy, thorough and conclusive investigation into the matter, the IGP has ordered the immediate deployment of a team of specialized investigators from the force criminal investigations department, Abuja, to Benue state to provide additional investigative support to the Benue state police command.”
