The Federal Government said it has concluded plans to introduce new anti-terrorism legislations in the country to create tougher sanctions for terrorists and their sponsors. The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami (SAN) stated this on Monday at the opening of a regional workshop on prison intelligence in a counter-terrorism context, organised by International Institute for Justice and Rule of Law, said the new law would also expand the definition of terrorism.

The Nigerian Government has expressed worry over increasing spate of killing of its citizens in the UK in recent time. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, expressed government’s position on the matter. “The increased killing of blacks, especially those of Nigerian origin in London was worrisome and disturbing,” she said.

The Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed, on Sunday, in Kwara State vowed that the perpetrators of the armed robbery in Offa Local Government area of the state will be brought to book.

Several people were killed with many others injured last week Thursday when armed robbers raided five commercial banks along the Owode Market Area of the town. The armed robbers broke bank vaults and made away with several millions of naira but seven suspects linked to the robbery were later arrested by the police on Saturday.

The Minister, during his visit, condoled with families of the victims of the attack and the Nigeria Police force which lost some of its officers.

The Nigerian Army on Sunday said it has killed three Boko Haram terrorists and rescued 149 persons in an ongoing operation aimed at clearing the insurgents from their hideouts in Yerimari-Kura Community in Sambisa forest. The Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Onyeama Nwachukwu disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday said the troops killed five insurgents and captured five others.

A retired Police Inspector identified as Mr. James Oyeyemi, who lost her daughter, Grace Makinde, also an inspector, to the robbery, said the bandits were able to operate unhindered because of the sophisticated weapons they used. The 72-year-old retired Policeman according to Dailytrust lamented that the policemen on duty could not confront the armed robbers because they wielded more sophisticated weapons than the AK47 they were carrying.

President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the Thursday armed robbery attacks in Offa, Kwara state and condoled with families that lost their loved ones during the attack. The President's message was posted on Twitter on Saturday via the Presidency handle @NGRpresident. In the message, the President disclosed that some of the attackers had been arrested by the Police and would soon be arraigned in court.
