In a dramatic twist Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has nullified the conviction passed against, Olisa Metuh, former spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after the High court convicted him of money laundering charges.
A three-man panel lead by, Justice Stephen Adah in a unanimous judgement delivered today accused the proceeding of the Federal High Court of being bias in handling Metuh’s case and his company, Destra Investment Limited.
Justice Adah said the utterances of Justice Okon Abang during the trial of Mr. Metuh in the lower court were taken too personal by the judge and therefore cannot stand.
Consequently, he, therefore, directed that the trial be conducted afresh.
Adah directed that the case file be sent back to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court for reassignment to another judge other than Justice Abang.
Justice Abang passed the judgment on Metuh on February 25, 2020, found Metu guilty of fraudulently receiving N400 million from the office of the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, and squandering the same.
