The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man in Abuja, identified as Moferewa Maiye, for allegedly impersonating a personnel of the Service and also using a fake pistol and a tactical uniform to intimidate and extort commuters and motorists in Abuja.
Following credible intelligence received by the Service, the fake personnel was reportedly arrested late Wednesday around NITEL Junction along Adetokunbo Ademola Way, Wuse 2, Abuja, in possession of a DSS tactical uniform and a fake pistol.
According to reports, he claimed that the DSS uniforms and other items found in his possession belonged to his brother, Monday Maiye, a deceased DSS personnel, who allegedly died years ago.
A source said, “Investigators are trying to establish how he came about the DSS uniform and kit.
“Investigators are also trying to establish how long the suspect has been involved in similar acts of impersonation and extortion.”
The source stated that the suspect is in custody while interrogations and investigations continue, adding that the arrest was part of efforts to arrest individuals who impersonate security agents in order to intimidate members of the public and commit criminal acts.
