The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested seven Polish citizens regarding their alleged involvement in the widespread waving of the Russian flag during the #EndBadGovernance protest in Kano on Tuesday. Their arrest was confirmed by the Spokesperson of DSS, Peter Afunanya, who stated that Polish citizens were not being targeted but it was part of routine security enforcement.

For some days, media reports and footage showed some #EndBadGovernance protesters carrying Russian flags in Kano, Kaduna, Jos and Nyanya, a suburb in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Several protesters and tailors who sewed the flags have been arrested

Some protesters in Kano who were waving the Russian flags, urged the Russian President, Vladimir Putin to intervene in the situation in Nigeria while some protesters stated they did so to spite the Nigerian government.

However the Russian embassy in Nigeria denied any involvement and mentioned in statement that the waving of Russian flags were the personal choices of the protesters and “do not reflect any official position or policy of the Russian Government.”
