Prominent Nigerians across the nation have continued to demand the unconditional release of the abducted students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State. The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, on Thursday, teamed up with hundreds of women and youths in Abuja to insist on the immediate and safe rescue of the over 300 students.
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), has approved the licensing of 173 private sector Agents and 30 State Governments/Public Sector Institutions to conduct enrolment of Nigerians and legal residents into the National Identity Database (NIDB) on behalf of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). The Director-General/Chief Executive of NIMC, Engr. Aliyu Aziz, who disclosed this on Friday in Abuja, that the licensed agents were explained that the approval was made after the agents successfully fulfilled all the conditions in the advertised Expression of Interest (EOI) which was done in 2019 as a first step towards the take-off the National Digital Identity Ecosystem project.
Senator representing Borno South, Mohammed Ali Ndume has called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the Amnesty International (AI) to stop the double standard game and leave the Nigerian Army alone. Ndume was reacting to the allegation by the duo against the Nigeria Army over human right abuses while on the other side keeping silence on the pogrom unleashed by the Boko Haram on an innocent citizen.
The UN has joined other voices to condemn the attack and called for the release of the students. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in a statement released by his spokesperson, Stéphane reaffirmed that “the solidarity and support of the United Nations to the Government and people of Nigeria in their fight against terrorism, violent extremism and organised crime”. The statement read in part “The Secretary-General strongly condemns the 11 December attack on a secondary school in katsina State, Nigeria, and the reported abduction of hundreds of boys by suspected armed bandits.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu, says that the recently trained officers of the Special Weapon and Tactical Team (SWAT) are set for deployed to commence routine work. The IG revealed that with the spate of insecurity in the country, he has already ordered the deployment of the SWAT officers to swing into action for routine patrols and other sundry crimes. Mr Adamu directive was addressed to the 17 Assistant Inspector Generals of police in the police and all Commissioners of police across the country.
