North Eastern Governors Forum (NEGF) has called on the Federal Government to seek foreign intervention from neighboring countries to end insurgency in Nigeria. The resolution was reached in Bauchi state where they held a regional meeting to float a regional security outfit in line with the 1999 constitution and guidelines from the service Chiefs.
Former Governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shehu Shema has called on all Nigerians to sink their differences and work together against insurgents who have continued to threaten the national peace and unity of the country. Shema made the call before inaugurating the reconstructed Chief Ferdinand Alabaraba Crescent and Opobo Crescent in GRA Phase 2, Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Wednesday.
The Federal Government has on Tuesday declared Zamfara State a ‘no fly zone’ as part of efforts to tackle the security challenges in the state. The National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Munguno (rtd.) made the disclosure in an interview with State House correspondents following a National Security Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, saying President Muhammadu Buhari approved the declaration as well as the recommendation of halting mining activities in the state.
The Nigerian Senate has today confirmed the appointment of Service chiefs nominated by president Buhari following the exiting of former Service chiefs Tukur Buratai and others. The confirmation followed the report submitted by the Senate Committee on Defence to the plenary. The committee chairman who is also a former Governor of Sokoto state, Aliyu Magatakardan Wamako, explained in his report that all the nominees made themselves available for the screening to the lawmakers conducted on 3rd February 2021.
The just-released students of Government Girls’ Secondary School, GGSS, Jangebe in Talata Mafara Local Government Area, LGA of Zamfara State have arrived at the Government House, Gusau, about 4 a.m. on Tuesday. Zamfara State Governor, Dr. Bello Matawalle, who confirmed their release in a Tweet on Tuesday, expressed delight over their freedom. He said “It gladdens my heart to announce the release of the abducted students of GGSS Jangebe from captivity. This follows the scaling of several hurdles laid against our efforts. I enjoin all well-meaning Nigerians to rejoice with us as our daughters are now safe.”
Following the abduction of over 300 schoolgirls from their hostel in Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, Zamfara State on Friday, the girls were on Sunday released. According to reports, the girls have been taken to the palace of the Emir of Anka to be taken to Gusau, the State capital. Details of their release are yet to be disclosed. Also, the Niger State Government announced the release of the 38 people abducted from the Government Science College, Kagara in Rafi Local Government Area.
