Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has explained that a preliminary investigation conducted on the cause of an explosion that rocked Ibadan on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of two persons was caused by explosives stored by illegal miners occupying a house in the Bodija area of the city. The governor who said 77 people were injured from the incident said they were being treated. He added that though an investigation was ongoing anyone found culpable would be brought to book. Several houses collapsed from the impact of the blast.

The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has summoned an emergency security meeting owing to rising security concerns, especially in the nation’s capital. Recently incidents of bandits breaking into houses and kidnapping residents have been on the rise. These incidents have unfortunately created panic among residents with specific reference to the abduction of 10 persons in Sagwari Estate Layout, Dutse Bwari Area Council last week, resulting in the gruesome murder of two of the victims Folorunsho Ariyo, and Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar. Addressing the meeting Wike assured FCT residents that their safety was guaranteed, adding that the government was working to support security agents with all that they need to tackle insecurity.

Not less than five inmates escaped Friday evening from Ecuador’s vast Guayaquil prison complex, with two of them caught shortly afterward during a vast search operation, police sources said. Shortly after their escape, two helicopters, as well as drones, were seen flying over the surroundings of the huge prison, on the northern outskirts of the city. They used powerful searchlights aimed at the ground to try to locate the fugitives, with two of them recaptured, according to officers at the scene. Authorities and the prison administration have not made an official statement so far.
