The Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle has shown mercy on 46 inmates who were serving different jail terms at the Gasua Medium Correctional Center. The state Commissioner for Justice Junaidu Attahir while addressing journalists after the pardon stated that the inmates were forgiven by the governor based on the committee's recommendations. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 46 inmates were carefully selected by the committee from different categories of sentences, including 46 inmates serving between six months and 20 years imprisonment, 11 inmates with life imprisonment, and five that are on death row.

President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) that justice will be served with regard to the gruesome killing of a pregnant Lagos-based lawyer, Omobolanle Raheem. Mr. President on Tuesday directed the Nigeria Police Force to ensure the policemen involved in the killing of a Lagos-based lawyer, are brought to justice. Buhari said “the strongest possible action” must be taken against the remanded policemen who reportedly shot and killed Omobolanle Raheem. “I assure you that justice will be done in this case,” the President said in a statement signed by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, title “President condemns killing of Omobolanle Raheem, says justice must be done.”

A yet-to-be-identified police officer attached to Lagos police command yesterday shot dead a female lawyer, Bolanle Rahim unprovoked. The incident happened yesterday, Sunday when the deceased was returning with members of her family from the church after attending Christmas service. Vigil360 learned that as the diseased while returning from church run into an Ajiwe police check in the Ajah area of Lagos state where they were asked to pull over. In an unprovoked manner, one police officer among the troop opened fire on the car before it pull over hitting the lawyer, and upon realizing that, the police officer fled the scene.
