The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has directed the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Bartholomew Onyeka, to seal up 17 Local Government Area Council secretariats in the state. This is coming after the State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang okayed the suspension of council chairmen and councilors governing the affected lgs, due to financial misconduct that required investigation. This move was met with fierce opposition from the suspended officials, all members of the All Progressives Congress, who rejected their suspension and insisted on maintaining their roles.

The Managing Director of the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), Alhaji Abubakar Yelwa, has called for a law to make life jackets compulsory for boat users across the country. Yelwa made the appeal while reacting to the boat mishap in Patigi LGA, Kwara state, which claimed about 100 lives on Monday. Alhaji Yelwa on Wednesday in Ilorin, during the flag-off of the distribution of the 2023 HYPPADEC-subsidised fertilisers for 5,795 farmers in kwara said “The fatality recorded in the unfortunate boat mishap in Patigi on Monday was due to the failure of the boat passengers to use life jackets.

About 100 persons returning from a wedding in Egbu village, Pategi LGA in Kwara state to Niger state were drowned in a boat mishap.
It was learned that the boat was overloaded with over 100 passengers and with none wearing a life jacket and not minding the consequence of such behavior by the ferrymen, all the passengers meet their end. The victims large numbers of them were women and children returning to their village, Egboti, in neighbouring Niger state from across the Egbu village in Kwara to meet their ill-fate.

The Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mallam Balarabe Shehu has described fake news, and hate speech as the biggest threats to the peace and unity of Nigeria. The NBC boss has warned broadcast stations in the country against relying on news from social media to build and disseminate their news broadcasts. Mallam Shehu gave the warning in Umuahia on Monday during the 10th edition of media training for media practitioners, organized by Vision Africa Radio Station, warning that unverified news is not worthy of airing.

The Federal Government has declared 12th June 2023 as Public Holiday to honor this year's Democracy Day. This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday in the nation's capital by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Dr Oluwatoyin Akinlade who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated all Nigerians on the occasion. She said; “Nigeria’s democratic journey has, like in many other climes, encountered both stormy and smooth sails, but the ship of State, its institutions, and most importantly, the Nigerian people have remained steadfast on the tenets of democratic governance.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu tasked security and intelligence agencies in Nigeria with the importance of sharing information and intelligence among themselves. “You can’t have disharmony in an orchestra. We must focus on one tunnel, share information, and share intelligence. You cannot hoard information. You cannot hoard intelligence,” Tinubu said when he toured the new Office of National Security Adviser and facilities at the National Counter Terrorism Centre, Abuja. He said his administration had recognized that in order to achieve economic revival, prosperity, and development, security should be of optimum priority.
