The Senate has yesterday called on the employers of labour to relax age limit as their requirement for employment in Nigeria. The demand followed the adoption of the motion at the plenary titled; “Age Requirement Pre-condition for Employment in Nigeria, Urgent Need for Intervention” was sponsored by Sen. Abba Moro (PDP- Benue).
Following the knee-jack hike in the price of petroleum product, the Nigerian labour Congress, NLC has threatened the Federal Government that the labour union may resolve to self help Petroleum price on Tuesday, 18th July, 203 jumped from N539 per litre to N617 thereby sending a shock wave into the transportation industry amidst complaints by the general public over steady inflation that is holding the nation economy by the jugular.
The latest increase came in less than two months after the same product was jerked to N539 from the previous N195 per litre after removal of the petroleum subsidy by the government of bola Ahmed Tiunubu.
Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) through its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi have reportedly announced the arrested of a 19-year-old student, Nnamani Daberechi, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport for attempting to export 7.2 kilograms of methamphetamine, popularly known as Mkpuru Mmiri, which was concealed in crayfish. Babafemi revealed that Daberechi was intercepted on 15th July 2023, during an outward clearance of passengers on Turkish Airlines flight TK 0624 by the NDLEA on his way to Europe for his undergraduate studies.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Maj. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has questioned the amnesty programmes for terrorists and bandits in Nigeria, adding that it has failed to achieve its purpose and beneficiaries have refused to repent and exploit the opportunity to regroup and continue their nefarious activities. He made this known on Wednesday when the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, paid him a courtesy visit.
In the early hours of Tuesday, the factional leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Simon Ekpa issued a fresh order announcing a two-week sit-at-home lockdown in the whole of Southeastern states. This order is coming shortly after a closed-door meeting in Abuja with southeast political leaders and President Tinubu on resolving the security situation in the region. Also present in the meeting were Governors, National, and state assembly members, and other notable leaders of the meeting. “Following the demand by the Biafra people for more sit-at-home civil disobedience, the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile (BRGIE) and Biafra De Facto Government In Homeland wish to notify Biafrans that there will be a sit-at-home civil disobedience starting from 31 July 2023 to 14 August 2023,” Ekpa said.
Aggrieved members of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), formerly Nigerian Prisons Service, has demanded salary upgrade to meet their counterpart in the Interior Ministry, hence wrote President Bola Tinubu about alleged corruption and poor remuneration in the Service. According to the letter, staff of NCS are poorly paid if compared to their colleagues in other Departments at the Ministry of Interior, leading to personnel depending on inmates to feed their families.
