The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has disclosed that about 13 states are prone to flooding over the opening of the Lagdo dam in the Republic of Cameroon. The agency further revealed that the situation may worsen due to the release of excess water from the Lagdo dam by its operators. The States, according to the agency are Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Niger, Nasarawa, Kebbi, Kogi, Edo, Delta, Anambra, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa. The agency also stated that the country should expect the Kainji, Shiroro, and Jebba dams to overflow between now and the end of October.

The military has just concluded the mass burial for the personnel who lost their lives during an ambush and air crash in Niger State. The burial was conducted at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja today. It was reported that on the 14th of August 2023, some bandits had ambushed troops around Zangeru general area in Niger, which led to the death of 14 soldiers while 7 were injured. The incident led to the deployment of the Nigerian Air Force evacuation aircraft. Unfortunately, the aircraft crashed around Chukuba village of Shiroro LGA, killing all passengers onboard, including two pilots and two crew members.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has been advised to pay attention to the program that has promote peace in the Niger Delta region, Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).

The Director General, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Dr Abbas Idris has confirmed that two persons sustained severe injury and (37) others have been rescued from a collapsed plaza in Garki, Abuja.

The acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun has ordered state Commissioners of Police (CPs) to establish Complaint Response Units (CRUs) in their respective state command, adding that this development was due to his commitment to sanitize and standardize the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in line with his commitment to fortify the Force’s complaints response mechanisms. This was made known on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, adding that the IGP also approved the appointment of CSP El-Mustapha Sani as the Head, CRU.

The Country Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Nigeria, Cristian Munduate, has urged the Federal Government to apply relevant laws to prosecute bandits for their atrocities committed against humanity.
Cristian made the call during a press briefing preparatory to the commemoration of World Humanitarian Day in Maiduguri on Friday.
