The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) on Friday vowed to ground economic activities in Lagos State as part of its protest against the ban on the operations of its affiliate union, the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) by the state government. It also directed its members to mobilise for a one-day protest on Monday in preparation for the withdrawal of service. Addressing journalists during a press briefing in Abuja, the National President of the TUC, Festus Osifo, said all affiliate unions of TUC including the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions among others are expected to join the action.

The Federal Government (FG) has disclosed that commercial institutions such as schools, banks, hotels, recreational centers and other private sector establishments would be required to have certified fire safety officers. This was made known in a statement issued by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo on Thursday during his maiden official inspection tour of the National Fire Academy, Sheda, Abuja.

Kebbi state government has today issued an order banning all mining sites and activities around them in the state till further notice. This was made known by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Yakubu Tafida, through a statement issued to journalists at the state government House in Birnin Kebbi citing some reason for the order.

A missing Zamfara journalist, Hamisu Danjibga, has been found dead, according to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). Confirming the death, VON in a statement on Thursday signed by its Director General, Osita Okechukwu, said “It is with a heavy heart that the staff and management of Voice of Nigeria (VON) announce the murder of Hamisu Danjibga, our correspondent who was kidnapped in the early hours of Monday, 18th September 2023, by terrorists at Zamfara State.

In an early our of today, some number of yet to be identified students of the Federal University Gusau, Zamfara state wake up to an unfortunate day as kidnappers stormed the campus and whisked away some students. It was learned that the bandits in their large number invaded the student community of the off-campus student hostel where student constitutes the tenants of the community and whisked them away whom were mostly females.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is set to host delegates from 54 African countries and 15 observer nations on September 26, 2023 in Abuja for the 31st meeting of Heads of National Drug Law Enforcement Agencies, Africa (HONLAF). This was made known on Tuesday at joint press briefing by the Secretary to NDLEA, Shadrach Haruna and the Country Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Oliver Stolpe.
