Suspected herdsmen have reportedly killed several people in Umogidi community of Entekpa Adoka district of Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, while others sustained various injuries. The attack on Wednesday left 46 corpses including a son of the Otukpo Local Government Chairman, Hon. Bako Eje. The development was confirmed by Lt Col. Paul Hemba (retd.), Special Adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom on security, who added that casualty figures may likely increase owing to life-threatening injuries sustained by other victims of the attack.

This happen barely 24 hours after suspected herders invaded Igbobi community in neighbouring Apa Local Government Area of the state during which three persons were murdered.

It was gathered that the armed herders returned to the Umogidi community on Wednesday evening, shortly after the burial of the three persons earlier killed in the Tuesday attack.

Chairman of the council, Bako Eje, who lost his son, said the invaders had terrorized the people for more than a month.

“For over a month now, they have been terrorizing our people in that axis, from Igili to Umuogidi across Enetekpa ward.”
