President MuhammaduBuhari has appointed a former director-general of the State Security Service, Afakirya A. Gadzama, mni as chairman of the Governing Board of the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS). In a letter conveying the appointment,referenced SGF.2/S.9/C.3/10, and signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.
The appointment was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari with effect from December 16, 2019 for an initial term of four years in line with Section 4 of the National Institute for Security Studies (Establishment Act), 2019.
Gadzama started his career in the defunct National Security Organization as a Principal Officer in 1984 and rose through the ranks of the NSO and the subsequently the State Security Service, which was created out of the NSO when it was dissolved in 1986.
He has served as State Director of Security in Plateau State, Federal Capital Territory, and Kaduna states respectively. Gadzama was at other times, Director of Operations, National Headquarters, Director of Programmes, National Headquarters, Director of Intelligence, Director of Administration and Logistics, National Headquarters, Director of Corporate Services, National Headquarters and later as Director General, SSSbetween 2007 and 2010.
