The Nigeria Labor Congress has warned the Federal Government against further extension of the lockdown put in place due to the novel coronavirus pandemic claiming that it could trigger social unrest if the lockdown exceeded one month.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha by the President of NLC Ayuba Wabba. Mr Wabba stated that "Within the first two weeks of the lockdown in some parts of the country, there were widespread acts of civil disobedience, inducement of law enforcement agents to gain passes and even various form of violent crimes. No one is sure of how long this dam would hold"
The union also frowned at the method employed by the FG in the distribution of palliative measure, calling for the expansion of the initiatives to all Nigerian affected by the pandemic, and noting that our economy might relapse into a prolonged coma if the current lockdown persists after the current extension.
